1801 George III Half Guinea 6th Laureate Head Design.
This historic gold coin features the 6th laureate head of King George III on the obverse, with the inscription GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA. The reverse displays the crowned shield of arms design, surrounded by the Latin legend: M.B.F. ET H. REX. F.D. B. ET L. D. S.R.I.A.T. ET E.
Struck in 1801, this Half Guinea is composed of approximately 4.2 grams of 22-carat gold (nearly 1/8 oz of pure gold) and measures around 20mm in diameter. The name “Guinea†originates from the West African region where much of the gold used in minting these coins was sourced.
