The 2023 Bull of Clarence 1/4oz gold coin marks the third release in The Royal Mint’s Royal Tudor Beasts Collection. Inspired by the statues that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace, this series—like its predecessor, The Queen’s Beasts—will feature ten iconic heraldic creatures.

Designed by David Lawrence, the reverse of the coin features the powerful Bull of Clarence set against a textured chain mail background. This intricate detail not only adds striking visual depth but also serves as a modern security feature to help guard against counterfeiting.

For the first time in this series, the obverse bears the official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, created by sculptor Martin Jennings.

Struck in 0.25 troy ounces of 999.9 fine gold, the coin is classified as legal tender in the UK, making it exempt from Capital Gains Tax. As investment gold, it is also VAT-free.

Production of the 2023 Bull of Clarence will be limited to a short window before the next coin in the series is launched making this a must-have for collectors aiming to complete the full set.
