Gold Britannias are the most popular 1oz gold coin among larger UK-based private investors, offering excellent tax advantages, they are both Capital Gains Tax-exempt and VAT-free.

Produced by The Royal Mint, Britannias were first introduced in 1987 with a face value of £100 and originally struck in 22-carat gold. From 2013 onwards, Britannias have been minted in 24-carat gold (999.9 purity) with a weight of 31.21 grams. Coins dated 2013 are slightly flatter and wider (38.61mm diameter), while coins from later years measure 32.69mm.
